Wolf Mountain is a separate ski area, formerly known as Park West, is only four miles down the road, and an easy 15-minute transfer from Park City. It's a little lower, a little less than half the size and less than half the price to ski. Snowboarding is allowed here, unlike Park City and Deer Valley. The layout of the skiing is much like that of Park City, but the bowls are reached only by hiking - no soft-option Jupiter chair here. Ironhorse peak should be avoided by beginners - one side of the ridge has good intermediate runs, the other side has only 'expert' runs. The area is almost always pleasantly un crowded and there is a collection of lodgings, restaurants and shops at the base area. But it wouldn't be a particularly exciting place to stay. Buffalo Bob's Paradise Cafe, at the bottom of Iron horse lift, is renowned for its apres-ski atmosphere - good music, grilled burgers and drinks.
