Holiday Tourist Information for the USA

Everglades National Park is a marshy, subtropical savannah that covers about 1,500,000 acres (600,000 hectares). The winter nesting site for many northern migratory bird species, it is also the permanent habitat of the spoonbill, brown pelican, osprey, bald eagle, and anhinga, as well as alligators, manatees, raccoons, deer, and panthers. In the park a river 50 miles (80 kilometres) wide and only 6 inches (15 centimetres) deep creeps slowly southward through tall grasses and stands of cypress, pine, mahogany, and mangroves. Hammocks (small ridges) rise to no more than 3 feet (1 meter) above sea level.

At Florida's Walt Disney World they have simply been transformed into Space Mountain and Main Street, USA, the nostalgic gateway to the Magic Kingdom--all models for the 600 other American-style amusement parks. They draw hundreds of millions of visitors who spend much more than an afternoon or evening in these specialized communities of fun and games.

Many major league baseball teams play an exhibition season in Florida's Grapefruit League. Florida has two professional football teams--the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Miami Dolphins, who play in the state-of-the-art Joe Robbie Stadium. The Orange, Gator, Citrus, Blockbuster, and Hall of Fame Bowl college games are also played in Florida. The Miami Heat and the Orlando Magic play professional basketball.
