Tipping Holiday Accommodation

  • While on holiday we all enjoy the local cuisine, good local wine, and good company, but do we know how much of a tip to leave if the service has been good or do we know if the waiting staff actually receive any monies left for them

  • Tipping in Spain requires the restaurant by law to include a service charge to the menu price, leaving a tip is up to the individual, most of the people leave about 5% of the bill.

  • Spanish restaurants should clearly mark the service charge on the bill, this charge will then be shared between all the staff working in the restaurant via the wages.

  • If you have enjoyed the service provided by the waiting staff a cash tip will ensure the person given the money will keep it.

  • To pay by credit card or cheque in a Spanish restaurant,

  • The restaurant can legally keep any tips given from payments of a credit card or cheque and use the monies as part of the staffs minimum wages.

  • Spain has many restaurants and bars to suit every taste and every pocket from fast food to gourmet.

  • Before departing on your holiday to Spain check out the local tourism website for information on customs and traditions, carnival dates, annual celebrations, and any other relevant information that will be helpful to you on your next holiday.
