Telluride started life in the 1870s as a silver-mining camp; when gold was found, the town boomed. It had a rough reputation for its drinking and whoring; some say its name is a shortened version of "To hell you ride". The town slumped in the early 1900s and became virtually depopulated until the skiing was developed in the early 1970s. Since then it has been restored to its former glory, with painted clapboard buildings now turned into friendly, interesting shops and restaurants. It looks like a typical small Wild West town from the movies - except that the main street is busy with pickup trucks, not horse-drawn wagons.
- Charming restored Victorian silver-mining town with a real Wild West atmosphere
- Skiing for all standards, from beginners to experts, with some of the steepest mogul fields we've seen and some of the longest easy runs in the Rockies
- Dramatic, craggy mountain scenery
- Some ski-in, ski-out accommodation in newly built Mountain Village
