Murren is a great resort. There may be other Swiss mountain villages that are equally pretty, but none of them enjoys views like the ones that Murren gives across the deep valley to the Eiger, Month and Jungfrau massifs: simply breathtaking. But it isn't just the views that Murren offers. The Schilthorn run  is excellent. The large intermediate ski area of Wengen and Grindelwald on the opposite side of the valley with the most spectacular scenery in the Alps to gaze at? It was here that modern skiing was more-or-less invented by Sir Arnold Lunn, who organised the first-ever slalom race here in 1922. Twelve years earlier his father, Sir Henry, had persuaded the locals to open the railway in winter so he could bring the first winter package tour here (of public school chaps, of course). British families have been coming to Murren year after year ever since - many of them members of the Kandahar Ski Club which Sir Arnoid founded.
