Book holiday rentals villas and apartments in Sayalonga Malaga direct.
Sayalonga village lies on the hillside at a height of 350 metres. It is 42 kilometres from Malaga and 17 from Velez-Malaga. The area is irrigated by the River Algarrobo, and produces principally olives and grapes, grown on terraces. The main street runs through the village longitudinally. At the beginning of this street is the only real square in Sayalonga, as all the others are just places where the street widens, suchas the site of the Parish Church of Santa Catalina. This Mudejar construction was built in the 16th century. Nearby is the Chapel of San Anton. The unusual circular shape of the cemetery of Sayalonga makes it interesting, as do its vaulted niches. In the 16th century, the poet Muhammad AI-Hasni, composer of a beautiful poem about Mecca, was born in Sayalonga. Festivities take place in honour of the Assumption of the Virgin on 15 August, whilst Candlemas is celebrated on 7 and 8 September, and on 7 October fiestas are held in honour of the patron saint of Sayalonga, the Virgin of the Rosary..
