The island of Mauritius benefits from tropical climate throughout the year. The winter period is from May to October with a temperature chain of 17 ºC to 23 ºC and summertime from November to April with temperatures ranging from 23 ºC to 33 ºC. The island (2040 sq. kilometre) is encircled by white beaches with aquamarine sea and rich greenery in the islands highlands.
Mauritius is located in the Indian Ocean, approximately 2000 kilometres to the east of mainland Africa, the island of Mauritius is made up of coral reefs born out of an early unstable periods of volcanic actions.
Mauritius was named by the Arab sailors and first colonized just in 1598 by the Dutch, naming it after the Prince Maurice de Nassau. Later the French took ownership of the island. The French later gave the island and its dependencies to the British. Mauritius obtained its independence in 1968 and became a republic in 1992.
