Moclinejo a Villas Apartments & Hotels

Moclinejo situated 20 kilometres from Malaga and 31 from Velez-Malaga, 450 metres above sea level. Together with the vine, from which an excellent wine is made, the chief products of Moclinejo are the almond and the olive. The site of the village affords magnificent views over the Bay of Malaga. Though the urban layout of the village is reminiscent of the two previous localities described, its Moorish air has been in part lost due to the alterations caused by recent construction work. The Church of Santa Marfa was built in the 1 6th century and reconstructed in the 18th. In it, the outstanding feature are the beautiful Moorish arches of the bell tower and the roof, also in Mudejar style. In the interior, the choir has a Modernist grille.

The most important historic event to take place here has left its mark in the name of two local sites: "La Hoya de los Muertos" (Valley of the Dead) and "La Cuesta de la Matanza" (Hill of the Massacre). These refer to the battle between the Moors and the Christian troops of El Adelantado of Antequera, which took place in 1482, ending with the defeat of the Christians. On Good Friday, the local people act out the Passion, attracting spectators from all over the region. The festivities for Saint Bartholomew take place on 24 and 25 August. The last stretch of this route takes us to the coast, some 11 kilometres distant, to Rincon de la Victoria, where the next route also begins. This short journey takes us through the small village of Valdes, and through Benagalbon, part of the municipal area of Rincon de la Victoria, and almost completely modernised. Only the whitewashed aspect of the houses here and the layout of certain of its nooks and corners remind us of the architectural heritage of the region.
