Keystone has the biggest and best intermediate skiing area of all the Ski the Summit resorts, with miles and miles of immaculately groomed tree-lined runs.
It also has Colorado's biggest night skiing operation, with 13 runs operating, a huge computerised snowmaking system to supplement the natural stuff, and the best mountain restaurant in the US. Good skiers might find it a bit limited, but with the rest of the Ski the Summit area to explore too, they should find enough to interest them for their stay -especially if nearby Arapahoe Basin is fully open.
The resort best suits keen skiers who aren't seeking lively nightlife. There are some excellent restaurants, but not much in the way of lively bars and dancing. Those who want nightlife would be better off staying in Breckenridge, and making excursions to Keystone.
Keystone was the dream of Max Dercum. He gave up his professorship at Pennsylvania State University to drop out with his wife, Edna, to Colorado in the 1940s. Max converted the old stage-coach stop into the Ski Tip Lodge, now the most atmospheric place to stay in the district.
