Chez Gabard Chalais, Maison de Gardien Chalais.
This attractive little house has its own garden, a terrace with table, chairs and barbecue. It has immediate access to the pool area, which is why it is always the first property to be booked.
It has a sitting room, complete with Satellite TV and DVD player. There are two sofas and a rocking chair and for out of season use, a wood stove.
There is a well equipped kitchen/diner, complete with fridge/freezer, microwave oven, dishwasher and gas cooker. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms, one with a king size bed and the other with 2 - 3 single beds. The bathroom has a shower and WC.
House linen is provided and the beds are made for your arrival. Please bring towels for the pool.
The barn beside the pool contains a washing machine, changing room and WC. Table tennis, chess and a dart board are available, along with some pool games.
Chez Gabard is an ancient “Maison de Campagne” set in 3 acres of garden surrounded by green fields on a hillside overlooking the small market town of Chalais. We let the two properties that are either side of the infra-red alarmed swimming pool; one of which is called ‘Maison de Gardien’ and the other is called “The Sunflower House’. The large swimming pool (14 x 6 metres), gardens, small lake, fish, ducks and a bridge are there to be enjoyed by all.
The town of Chalais with its floodlit 13th Century Chateau, is in the rolling, well wooded countryside of the South Charente, bordering the Dordogne. It is a relaxing 5 hours drive from St Malo, 1½ hours from Bordeaux and Bergerac International Airports and a days drive from the channel ports. Chalais is an easy 1km walk from Chez Gabard. The town has bakers, garages, a large supermarket, railway station etc and a market on Monday mornings where locals collect for gossip. Excellent selections of fruit, vegetables, fish and cheeses are available amongst the stalls.
From Chez Gabard scenic drives on wonderfully quiet roads will take you through lovely countryside to the Dordogne Valley, the Coast and some fine old cities such as Angouleme, Bordeaux, Bergerac, Periguieux and La Rochelle. The magnificient vineyards of Bordeaux, Cognac and Bergerac are within easy driving distance. The medieval hilltop town of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne with its unique monolithic church is about 6 miles away. This is rural France as it used to be. Plenty of little local restaurants will tempt you, including the excellent one at the Chateau of Chalais. Tennis, riding, golf, canoeing, fishing, walking, cycling etc are all available locally.
