Haute Vienne in France it boarders  Creuse, Corrèze, Charente, Indre. Dordogne, Vienne, here you will find  Valleys, forest and mountain streams, the river Vienna runs through this region. The main city of the Haute-Vienne is Limoges  it is  known worldwide for its medieval Limoges enamels on copper,  and for the 19th century Limoges porcelain as well as  oak barrels Limousin oak which are used for Cognac production, the drink is made from Ugni Blanc only it must be distilled twice in copper pot stills and aged at least two and a half years in French oak barrels in order to be called cognac. The French Resistance had a very important role in the area you can find out more about the Resistance from the museums around this region the On June 10th 1944 the villagers were rounded up and shot and the village destroyed, by the 2nd SS Panzer Division passing through on their way to the Normandy beaches. This event is made evn more sad as the brutal retribution taken by the Germans was for an act of resistance performed by members of a village of a similar name. The ruins of the village have been left exactly as they were on that dreadful day as a memorial to those who died. Thousands of visitors visit each year to walk silently through the desolated streets the tourist information will have details.  The region is very popular with tourists and there are countless chateaux and places of interest in the region. Limoges airport, serviced by budget airline Ryan Air, offers daily flights to London Stansted. along the valley of the river Creuse lies a popular water sports centre at the Lac de Chambon a 16km long lake near Éguzon. Here you will find beautiful countryside, and spectacular gorges which are renowned for their majestic scenery with pretty villages and towns dotted around this region  with many beautiful buildings set in cobbled streets.
