Accra is the capital of Ghana, the largest city and its administrative, communications, and economic centre. Ghana is situated on the southern coast of the West African bulge and is bordered to the east by Togo, to the west by the Ivory Coast, to the south by the Atlantic Ocean and to the north and northwest by Burkina Fasso.

The coastline consists mostly of a low sandy, foreshore behind which stretches the coastal plain. All foreign visitors to Ghana require a visa valid for at least 3 months after the duration of intended stay as well as evidence of a return ticket. EU and US nationals also require a tourist visa for their stay. In theory visas can be issued for up to 1 year but this is at the discretion of airport officials and only a 1 month stay can be guaranteed on a tourist visa.

The beaches of the Atlantic coast are popular with visitors and Ghanaians alike. La Pleasure and Kokrobite Beach, just 25km west Accra, are particularly popular at weekends. Among the highlights of Accra are the National Museum, with its splendid display of exhibits that reflect the heritage of Ghana from prehistoric times to modern times; the National Theatre with its distinctive modern architecture are among some of the attraction when visiting here.
