Haute-Savoie borders on Switzerland to the North, with Geneva as the closest major town, and Lake Geneva. The town of  Évian-les-Bains is the most famous town on the French shore of Lake Geneva, well-known around the world for its mineral water Evian. To the east, Haute-Savoie borders Italy and to the west the department of Ain. Some of the world's most well-known ski resorts are located there, as well as Mont Blanc and Lake Annecy.

The landscape is varied and grandiose. The impressively craggy mountain tops and glaciers are covered in snow all year round and the high mountains are covered with wild flowers in the spring and summer with mountain lakes and lush valleys. The region has something for everyone in all seasons of the year. The resort towns and villages are active in all seasons and are a magnet to both sports and nature enthusiasts.

Sporting activities are endless here, snow sports in the winter, or rafting, canoeing, climbing and hill walking in the milder parts of the year. There are also excellent golf courses and horse riding facility. The region is easily accessible by road and rail, with the International airport at Geneva, now serviced by the budget airlines, is only an hour's drive from Chamonix, Megeve or Morzine.
