Champery is one the prettiest of ski villages, with narrow streets, pleasantly rustic wooden buildings, informal cafes, nice little shops, and a friendly atmosphere - certainly the most appealing place from which to ski the main Franco-Swiss Portes du Soleil circuit. It can also be one of the least reliable of Switzerland's ski resorts for snow, with sunny slopes mainly lying between 1600m and 2200m.With good transport links and sports facilities, Champery is great for part-timers and non-skiers, or for families looking for a quiet time in a lovely place, especially if they have a car. But it also deserves consideration by skiers who simply put character before convenience. The north-facing slopes of Avoriaz, just across the French border, are only four lift-rides away.
