Chamonix Holiday Accommodation

Ski Chamonix

Book Chamonix ski accommodation direct with owners chalet apartment or hotel.

Chamonix could not be more different from France's well-known, purpose-built ski resorts. There is no huge area of well-connected lifts and groomed pistes.  There is all sorts of terrain, but it offers more to interest the good skier than anyone else; to make the most of the area you need a mountain guide rather than a piste map. Chamonix is neither convenient nor conventional, but it is special and - understandably - a Mecca for advanced skiers. Both the skiing and the scenery are dramatic - the Chamonix valley cuts deeply through Europe's highest mountains and glaciers. The views are stunning and the skiing is everything really tough skiing should be - not only steep, but high and long. If you like perfectly manicured pistes accessed by queue-free bubbles, stick to the Trois Vallees; but if you like your skiing and your scenery on the wild side, give Chamonix a try. But be warned: there are those who try it and never want to go home.

  • A lot of very tough skiing, especially off-piste

  • Access to arguably the most famous off-piste ski route of them all - the Vallee Blanche

  • Amazing views of the Mont Blanc massif and surrounding glaciers

  • Ancient mountain town, steeped in history and Alpine traditions

  • Unforgettable cable-car ride to the Aiguille du Midi

  • Well-organised and extensive cross? country trail system

  • Plenty for non-skiers to do

  • Easy access by road, rail and air

  • Ski areas completely separate from each other - a car is most useful

  • Runs down to the valley floor are often closed due to lack of snow

  • Popularity and too many old lifts mean crowds and queue.

  • Mixed-ability groups will find it difficult to stick together and keep everyone happy.
