Cantal is part of the Auvergne region it boarders Aveyron, Correze, Haute-loire, Lot, Lozere, and Puy-de-Dome. The Cantal department is dominated by mountains that were originally volcanic providing fantastic views of deep valleys and pastureland used for sheep and dairy farming, producing one of the oldest cheeses in France dating back to the times of the Gauls.
