Benamargosa is small town that is situated at 46 kilometres from Malaga and 12 from Velez-Malaga. Benamargosa lies on a flat area 100 metres above sea level, surrounded by small hills. At six kilometres is Cutar, which forms part of the Route of the Raisin, whilst 19 kilometres away is Riogordo, one of the stops on the Route of Oil and Mountains. The main products of the municipal area of Benamargosa are its citrus fruits, its olives, the vine and subtropical fruits (avocados, mangos andchirimoyas). The village is considered Moorish inorigin, as is demonstrated by its name and by the layout of its streets, un even and steeply-rising, though there are no historical   records  to  testify  to  this belief. The Parish Church of La Encarnacionwas constructed at the end of the 1 6thcentury, its front and the Chapel of Jesus Nazareno restyled in the 18th century.

The style of the church resembles the Gothic, though it also contains Baroqueelements.

Three important festivities take placehere  every year:   20 January,  Saint Sebastian, the August Fair in the first week of that month, and celebrations in honour of the patron saint of the village, in early November.
