Vietnam or to use the official name the Socialist Republic of Vietnam. Vietnam has to its north China and to the northwest Laos with Cambodia to the southwest. To Vietnams east coast lies the South China Sea.

Vietnam has an area in the region of 331,688 square km.

Much of Vietnam has a tropical climate with a high humidity of around 84% this is for much of the year.

Northern Vietnam is mainly an area of highlands but also has Red River Delta. The highest mountain is in the region of Lào Cai at 3,143 m.

The south consists in the main of coastal lowland areas and forests. The region is made up of five relatively flat plateaus.
